oil pooling

I have a 912 ULS 0 time engine. Have run it a few times for a minute or so at idle. I'm seeing a 1/2" wide swath of oil in the number 1 cylinder from the piston to the cylinder head, with piston at bottom dead center, after it sits for a few days. Any ideas? Subsequent starting gives off a large cloud of blue smoke for a few seconds.
