Good evening all,
Some background information: Rotax 582 blue top. Aquilla trike.
I relocated to George, South Africa at 500Ft asl, from the Highveld, at 5600ft asl. On my very first take-off, after a proper engine run up and associated checks, I suffered an instantaneous engine out during take-off at about 200ft agl. The emergency landing in a field was successful without any damage or injuries. I inspected the aircraft and engine, checked ignition and carb bowl levels, all seemed normal. After about 15 minutes I started the engine with some effort. During the mag tests and power checks all seemed normal. I do not have EGT's installed, but the engine coolant temp showed 70deg C during warm up. I took off, and flew straight back to the airfield, 2km away.
The fuel filter and plugs are 10hrs since replacement and I conducted a thorough inspection back in the hangar. No obvious problem to be seen.
I have ordered a set of 165 main jets for coastal flying, as the original jets for flying at altitude was not replaced. Could this have caused the instantaneous engine out? (no gradual loss of power or rough running was experienced prior to the failure).
I am also concerned that I might have suffered a cold seizure. I will remove the exhaust manifold to inspect the pistons before proceeding with further fault finding. Any comments and help will be appreciated.
