Looks a lot like Mouse Droppings.
Do I see wood fragments in there?

It did look like tiny twig and leaf material.

    OK, what's the back story?

Is this your airplane or someone else's?
    New plane? Old plane?
A newly replaced tank that wasn't cleaned before installation?

    What's the skinny?
Wood isn't a common contaminant in a fuel system!
Inquiring minds want to know. :P

    Hi Bill,

This was a FD CT that came into my shop. It was here for an annual and 5 year rubber change. This was it's second hose change as it was 10 years old. They use 91 oct. and filled from 5 gal. cans, but somewhere along the way it must have had a contaminated source. I say twigs and leafy material because when it dried out on the paper towel that is exactly what it looked like. In all the planes I do I usually find a couple of tiny flecks of material from time to time. Nothing alarming. When I opened this filter it was an Holy Cow moment. This was the first filter after the fuel tanks. No debris in the lower gascolator after this filter and nothing in the fuel pump. Nothing had changed in the fuel system. It was just contaminated fuel from someplace.

    Hi guys,
Although I do like the aluminum case filters for their mechanical quality I use the clear plastic filters instead. This way I can spot contamination at a glance without undoing anything. And the earlier one see debris the better one can identify the source and avoid it.
