    There are no dashes in ROTAX serial numbers. I think you are looking at a part number there!

    The engine serial number is found on a data plate that is riveted to your engine (you can also find the serial number in the engine logbook... )

    I am looking to possibly purchase a used Kitfox IV 1200 with a Rotax 912 (serial #4403393) installed. This engine was supposedly purchased from a "widow" and run only 30 minutes prior to her husband's death (I know, it sounds a bit suspicious...). From what I have read in a few posts, I am guessing the engine was manufactured sometime in the late 1990's?

    I would like to know the manufacture date along with any other information the serial number can provide.

    4403393 was produced 19-Feb-1999

    the factory database tells us that it is

    ROTAX 912 UL

     309120010

    ( but it doesnt tell us anything else!)

    It does not appear that the engine was ever registered for owner's warranty
