I have a couple questions about my 503 . I had an oil problem and running rich at altitude last year. Since then, I moved the needle a bit leaner. I just changed the plugs and they looked really good. Light gray/brown color. I have been noticing that my CHTs have been pushing the high end of 430 degrees. They hold around 400-420 during level flight but any climbing pushes them over the 430. I have seen 460 on the rear cylinder, the one that is alway hotter. EGTs have been good holding around 1000-1050. I also wonder whether I am using enough oil. I am using AmsOil Intercepter and have been putting in around 8-10 oz per 5 gallons. If this is supposed to be running at 50 to 1, I should use 2.6 oz per gallon, or 13 oz with each 5 gallon fill. I was reading somewhere that the engine adjusts oil usage to the demand put on it. Is that true? This oil consumption has been pretty constant over the 175 hours I have put on the engine.
