I'm stripping my 912uls down to clean and refurbish and to remove the valves to clean i purchased the Rotax tool for depressing the valves to remove the collets. I successfully removed the valves from Cylinders 1 & 3 but when I came to cylinder 2 I removed the intake valve but before I could remove the exhaust valve the bolt sheered as can be seen in the pictures. I has set the piston to TDC to remove pressure from the springs. Has anyone had this experience before? i'm going to attempt to remove the sheered end from the cylinder head with an easy-out but very worried i'll damage the threads! anyone got any advice?

    I’ve successfully removed the offending bolt from the cylinder head without damage to the head itself. Still concerned as to why this happened in the first place?

    It was likely a bad bolt or seeing as it broke in the threads at the surface of the mounting plane, the bolt could have been loose and had bending loads applied when the valve springs were compressed or was just bumped sideways and it was just bad luck.

    I once had a 1/2" drill bit roll off of a workbench onto an asphalt tile floor.
    I was amazed that such a heavy piece of steel would break in half from such a minor drop.
