Has anyone had experience of Carmo Electronics in the Netherlands who appear to provide ignition module testing and repair/overhaul if found  necessary?

They really seem to be a reliable and efficient company. From what we hear over here, go for it.

Had very poor experience with them. Initially the repair seemed to work but within 50 hrs problem was back ( poor cold starting with no spark, the standard problem). Sent them back and they charged me another £100 to test and said there was nothing wrong. Refitted and they seemed Ok for about 5 hrs, in summer so temps were up, and then problem started again. Sent the, back again and this time they stated there was a problem and repaired them again.

Same story after about 5 hrs packed up again so once again they went back. gain they said there was a problem and they are repaired again. By now I had bought new units which were fine until I sold the aircraft. The “repaired” units are in the garage untested and cost me over £500. They may be fine but couldn’t risk them again.

Posted same query as yours. 2 other fiends of mine had failures and so I posted Microlight Facebook account. Had loads of replies with same answer. I also no several people that, so far, have had success with them. Personally wouldn’t ever send anything to them again. If they would give an indication of how they fixed them it would help a little.

There is a potentially new and better alternative available as well as cheaper, which is being trialled by a friend of mine currently. Will get back to you with the details.

    Hi John,

Which type of module did you have repaired at Carmo? The older 4-pin (p/n 965358) or the newer 6-pin version?

    Regards,

    Harri

The six pin, although my belief is they are all the same inside, other than the new soft start ones.
