I would keep it stock. I have 2-3 customers that I have to loosen the exhaust pipe. That said I have loosened both front exhaust pipes and moved them over slightly to give enough space to get an oil filter wrench in and remove the filter. Get an oil filter wrench from Leading edge Airfoils. It's  narrow and works great. Many cowlings have enough room to make the small adjustment. In the scheme of things it's  a minor irritation.

If it is just a wrenching problem, use a different wrench.
Using a purpose-made wrench is nice but not required.
A chain wrench or pair of really large Channel-Locks will do the deed.
The filters go on easily enough by hand.
When removing them, some cosmetic damage is insignificant compared to what it going to look like after you cut it open.

I would highly highly recommend the stainless steel oil filter wrench that Leading Edge Airfoils sell. It won't  damage the filter, it will remove the toughest  filter and it's thin and gets in tight places.  It's well worth the money.

So, to summarize and filter the emotions (pun intended) it’s a bad idea because it would add potential failure points where a leak could occur when simpler options such as using a different wrench exist.

Sometimes the K.I.S.S. principle is the better choice to help reduce possible unsceen issues.

K.I.S.S. = Keep it simple stupid.

I'd  bet many of us has been subject to our own great ideas in our life time. LOL

    I know I've  been guilty.  ?
