Why would my PTO end CHTsuddenly drop 50degs C.

Hi all...during my last flight with my fan cooled 503didc trike I noticed that my PTO CHT had dropped 50 deg C,

I have duel EGT and CHTs...the EGTs at the time where exactly where it always are smack bang equal with its opposite around 600c,

The PTO CHT was ind 100c and the MAG end 150c they normally always run within 10c of each other,

This happened last weekend...I have not had a chance to look at things yet...just trying to get some ideas from you guys first...although I am suspecting a gauge/wiring fault.

Nick,

Since nothing changed with the EGTs, I would suspect a gauge/wiring fault also. One quick way to find out is to switch the sensor positions and see if the low reading changes position on the gauge. In most cases, this problem is solved by simply unplugging and replugging all four CHT spade connectors. If this cures it, give each spade connector a coating of dielectric grease. The grease is great for stopping corrosion, which usually causes this fault.

Looks like you where right Bill...I dropped the gauge down from the panal...checked the crimped ends for security....gave the terminals a clean with a rag and rotated the terminals around on the pins to get them to bite on the pins....test ran the engine and all seems fine again,

I must get myself some of that electric grease...I wonder is silicon grease the same thing with a different name...I have lots of that stuff.

Nick,

Glad you found it. You can get the dielectric grease at any auto supply store. It comes in a little tiny squeeze tube which will last you forever. I get mine at Advance Auto for aboout two bucks.
