Hello

Our regulator in South Africa has become very heavy handed suddenly and is enforcing recommendations on time based overhauls - currently this is affecting Lycoming and Continental engines but the feeling is that it will shortly be applied to Rotax engines as well.  Currently this will effectively ground 75% of the GA fleet as most engines are more than 12y since overhaul even though they are low time and running perfectly.

I have looked but i cannot find any recommendations on calendar based overhauls on the 914? I know TBO is 2000h. Does anyone have an idea on this or access to the recommendation?

    Hi Mike,

The MML has a table setting out the TBO requirements. Pages attached.

I hope CAASA can be convinced this is a very bad idea and that other regulatory bodies e.g. CASA in Oz don’t get wind of it!

    Cheers.

Thank you. This is exceptionally worrying. I doubt that CASA would do this because they are actually competent. This is a tea time rule that has been invented and which will essentially destroy general aviation in SA if allowed to continue
