My 582 starts and runs well. As I advance the throttle rpm increases to about 5800-6000 then as I advance the throttle further it misses and loses rpm. I have checked jets and float level and they are correct. The needle is on the upper slot. I thought the fuel pump might be weak so I tried it with the electric boost pump, no change. I checked the bore and piston through the exhaust port and they look great. 190 hrs on this engine. The plane takes off and flys at a good speed, but I am unable to use full throttle. Looking into the carb, it appears the slide has opened the forward opening completely and the misfire happens as it rises further to open the larger rear opening.

I changed the plugs and wires and cleaned the carbs and replaced all fuel lines. I hope to find out tomorrow if it is cured. Were you saying you cleaned the bowl and jets and it cured the problem for you?

Once you get past 3/4 throttle the needle and needle jet are no longer in play. You are running on the main jet only.

PROBLEM SOLVED!! Most people I spoke with thought it was a carburetor problem, but because the egt's would just drop rapidly I knew it could not be fuel starvation because It would go lean. So, because the engine had not seen much attention for several years I decided to attack the ignition system while giving the carbs a good look over. All jets and carb settings were correct and the interior was clean so I cleaned the outside and interior well, and reassembled them, checking float level (OK) and replacing the boots because they were cracking. Then I replaced the ignition wires, spark plugs, spark plug caps and all the little rubber parts. The wires had metal shielding, which I re-used and was a bear to reinstall. Did a run-up today, and after the engine got warm enough slowly advanced the throttle to 6k, where it ran ok previously. Then I slowly advanced the throttle into the problem zone and the engine just kept going, right to redline at full throttle with no coughs or sputters!! I might need to add pitch to the Ivo prop since it was able to go to redline while static.

You are definitely under pitched, you should see 6300 or so static.
