My 912 UL had not been run for 4 months and was
great the last time. Yesterday when my chinook was
being lowered from wheels onto the FullLotus floats,
heard a kind of a rattle noise from inside the engine.
THere are no loose wires or anything outside that could
make such a noise. When giving the plane a little jiggle,
there is a kind of a pendulum sort of metallic rattle
sound that lasts about 2 or 3 seconds. Has anyone ever
heard anything like that? Have not started the engine
yet, will it blow up? What could that noise possibly
be?

Re my rattle, using a stethoscope, the rattle turns out to be from inside the muffler, seems that there is a bit of material loose inside it.

Once in a while a baffle inside the muffler can break lose. Time for a new muffler.

Good catch! That could cause a sudden random blockage of exhaust flow resulting in loss of power and engine damage. It pays to be attentive to little things and take time to investigate them.
