I have a kitplane with a new 914. I'm flying at high altitudes and experiencing some hot airbox temps.

Id like to change the air intake from the filter right on the turbo ingesting hot in cowl air, to a setup that takes outside air.

Wondering if people have pictures or suggestions.

I know the CTLS has a system like this but I can't find more detailed pictures of it.

    hi Shaun

A fresh air inlet is a good idea.  If you are flying high altitude the best thing to consider is an intercooler like is used in the type 915 or 916 Rotax.  The high altitude air is very thin so the turbo is working to max to get the desired pressure point.  As you compress it the temperature rises a lot.  Intercoolers are normally used if you can't control the inlet air temp.  Given the boost pressures on a 914 you should not require a pop-off valve.  (the 915 and 916 have one standard but run much higher boost)

    Cheers

If you look at photos of a Europa XS with a 914 it has a NACA scoop into a plenum for cool ram air.
