On my kitfox with its 912ULS I am replacing the old kitfox supplied exhaust system with the Rotax 973-383 and have encountered a problem.  Everything came in a Rotax packaged kit from advancedpowerplant so I should have all the right parts but something is very wrong with the clamp that attaches the stinger to the muffler as it appears too small.  It was very difficult to fit over the stinger and when its in position ready to clamp, the bolt provided does not have any thread protruding so I can fasten the nut.  Am I doing something wrong?  Attached is a photo

I didn't have any problem with that other than I shortened up the stinger pipes to pull the stinger closer into the muffler to minimize cowl rework. Maybe they sent you the wrong clamp or clamp bolt?

I will definitely check with Advanced Powerplant Solutions who sold the exhaust system to me!

By the way, did you find a torque spec for the clamp bolt? I could not find one and dont want to damage it by over-torquing.

Get a longer SS bolt, plain SS washer and metal (not Nylock type) lock nut to suit, from your local nut & bolt supply shop.😈

I have those in my parts bin and that looks to be my best plan.  I was just concerned that the clamp is the wrong part as its small enough that when I put it over the stinger, its stretched out enough that the two clamping faces are no longer parallel.   According to the Illustrated Parts manual, the clamp is the right one though.  Its just odd why they would ship it with a bolt that is 1/2" too short to work.  Rotax is usually very meticiulous about these things.

I have seen two of the pipes come off and cause quote a bit of damage under the cowl from the heat. I now put a seperate screw through the two pipes so they can never slide off from vibration.
