Hi guys,

I need the wide dog gears in my gearbox for the turbo conversion I am doing.
As far as I know, only the 914 has these gear ??

My gearbox serial nr is 887-271. Can anyony please tell me if I have the narrow or wide gears ? And excact what parts needs to be replaced for the conversion ?

Thanks,
Thomas

Both the current 912S and the 914 have wide gears (early 914's had 2.43:1 narrow gears) You can identify them by the scribe mark on the dogs but the gearbox needs to be off to see this (unless you have a $5000 articulating borescope?)
887271 is the part number of a gearbox assy with overload clutch and narrow gears so unless it has been modified you have 2.2727:1 narrow gears.

Do you know if converting from 912-914 with bullyhawks conversions kit will require
A gearbox upgrade ? From what I read in rotax SL both gear housing, dog hub and gears should be replaced.

You could replace the 2.2727:1 gear set with narrow 2.43:1, that way you get the taller gearing with less cost. part number 886517(Rotax made these for a short time).

But not the wider solid gear probably needed for the added HP with a turbo ?

They will not break, the reason Rotax went to the wide gear was for wear rate. Use good oil, change it often, sync the carbs, avoid low idle and the narrow gears will last a long, long time. Abuse them and you will be replacing them regardless of wide or narrow.
