    Hi Milo,

I have read this bulletin and now understand where you got your numbers. You can idle at that and it won't hurt anything. It's the low idle rpms to stay away from. I have seen SI's, SB's and alerts that don't always keep up or match up with what may be taught in school. In Rotax school they typically remind pilots to warm up with a minimum of 2000 rpm to 2400 rpm. One of the main reasons for the warm up is to allow metals and parts to expand at there different rates and be ready for higher rpms. While this is going on we should protect our engine investment with the slightly higher idle rpms and stay away from the vibration. There is nothing wrong with your numbers, but not necessary.

    dear Roger,

thanks a lot for all that information,

more than numbers it's the feeling of the smooth running, which expands, (can even double), engine's life,
and we have to remember recent researches, which confirm that more than half of the wear occurs in heating up minutes, (the aluminum piston expanding faster, pressing the rings against the cylinder, etc.,),
but there are huge security problems coming along with, and that's why rotax couldn't insist, cause operating in those low vibration ranges with 'extra' rpm's, we encounter square amounts of energy on the propeller !!!,

    cheers

    Hi Milo,

You got my vote. I couldn't agree more.

    apparently they changed,
'general engine operation requirements and operation tips',
    from,
    section 3.4),
    to,
    section 3.5) !!,

WHENEVER save and sensible the engine should be operated between 2 500 and 2 750 rpm !!,

I had the same kickback problem and made all the changes suggested in this forum. One more change resulted in a big improvement: I got rid of the fuel primer and installed a real choke system.

Also I'm sure everyone who has experienced kickback is careful to inspect engine mounts for cracks and to safety-wire engine mount bolts. That high compression motor can transfer a huge load to structural components.

Finally, I find that the engine starts quickly if I first have a little chat with it :)
