Hello,

I have a Rotax 912 80 hp that has flown about 80 hrs. I have changed at 50 hrs oil+filter and filled the oil up to about the max level.

Checking oil level today after its famous burping the oil level is just above min level.

Is this normal?

    Hi Jan,

My first question would be when you did the oil change did you put in 3 liters?

It can be normal. I find the level check after burping can be a little deceptive at times. You should not have any real oil consumption. Sometimes some extra oil will stay in the bottom of the engine and you may not really get it all out, so the oil level will look artificially low. If you blindly just add oil you may over fill the tank which won't really hurt anything, but may over flow and blow out the vent tube and make a mess. Start it for a few minutes and make sure you have good oil pressure, then check it again. Most likely it will have changed. If you do add oil just add a few ounces and check it again it won't take much to top it off.

    Hi Roger,

    You are right on.

After burping again the oil leven was between min and max. Subsequently I have run the engine for some while and checked the oil level: min level again. Rotated the prop by hand: now between min and max.

Conclusion: it is not easy to determine the correct oil level and hope that the experience that the engine do only consume very little oil is reliable.

Thanks for your relentless advice. This is the reason why I am a subscriber.
