Hi everyone,

We have reached the next problem with our rotax 912 ULS.

What were slight vibrations between 2500 and 3000 rpm have become more and more rough. Vibrations disapear at 3500 rpm and above. After doing carb sync the problem persists.

There I was when I felt like testing ignition circuits at 2800 rpm, just where the vibrations and roughness were worst, amazingly switching off one circuit improves the problem while the other worsen it !?!?

The ignition modules are new, they were changed about 25 engine hours ago, so I decided to interchange the ignition coils by interchanging the output of the ignition modules. The result was that when testing the ignition circuits, the switches's behavior interchanged.

May I deduce that ignition coils are bad? Rotax is asking 300 USD per coil!?

Thanks in advance.

    Hi Alberto,

Coils are pretty dependable. I would check all my wires first. It could be something as simple as a bad plug wire. These screw into the spark plug boot and the coil. You can unscrew these and trim the wire back about 1/4" and screw it back on. Trying a different set of plugs my also help eleminate the chance it could be a plug. Start with these simple non costly diagnostic test first and work your way up. Try not to just throw costly parts at it.

Ok, I followed your suggestion, put new spark plugs and trimmed the ignition wires, the result made no difference. Now what?
