I agree technically you are right.

Rotax over the many years has increased or reduced time elements for parts and fluid. Manuals and bulletins don't always agree. Even in school here they teach lower times and from experience I would too. I don't know anyone that I have dealt with that uses those extended times that I agree are in the manual. Everyone from what I've seen uses 25 for 100LL and 50 for auto fuel even though that isn't whats in the manual. It's just because they were taught that way. For plugs anything past 100 hrs. seems to be degraded.
Art is correct that in section 3 of the SI-912-016 rev 4 dated 8-2011, it does say to change oil at 25 hr. intervals for Avgas use. It is almost in the same paragraph. It says by the latest of 50 hrs, but they recommend 25 hrs. I have never been in a Rotax school where they have said to go 50 hrs. with Avgas.
I have seen this taught in Rotax schools this way for many years. 25 for avgas and even though it may say 100 for auto fuel I haven't seen anyone use that number. I'm sure there may be a number of them, but none I have ever worked with and I have never been advised to do so from a school.

If you pull the oil tank every few oil changes and see all the lead in the bottom even after 25 hr. changes why would anyone want to leave all that damaging lead sit twice as long and circulate and accumulate in their engine and oil. Even at a 25 hr oil change you can see the lead drain out in the oil. At least the 25 hr. changes help drain out some of the lead. I absolutely hate Avgas and only get stuck using it when I travel away from home. Then I use Decalin as a lead scavenger to at least help with the leading. Neither 25 hr changes or the use of a lead scavenger is a cure all for lead. It only helps and I'm not sure to what extent. 10%, 25%, 50%??

Oil is the life blood of any engine. Why disease it. When we disease our own body blood we die early. Before our body's TBO. ;)

Clarity, interpretation, school teachings and personal preference can certain give a range to operating parameters at times. Once in a while there is no real right and wrong answer. The answer falls within a range or a personal preference within that range.

    Hi Roger

    That is your own view.

This is not the Roger Lee Owners Site, If someone needs to clarify some information on the running of their engine I would point them in the direction of what Rotax recommend, and not what I have decided is the way to do it.

SI-912-016 is as clear as it comes.

If you use leaded fuel primarily (all the time), change your oil at 25hrs.
If you use leaded fuel more than 30% of the time, change your oil at 50hrs.
If you use unleaded fuel ( fuel that doesn't have lead in), change your oil at 100hrs.

The oil that you should be using in your engine will last a lot longer than 100hrs before degrading.
If you want to change your oil at 50hrs, or even 5hrs when you are using fuel without lead in that is fine, but is totally unnecessary.

Please read the service instruction again Roger. If you don't understand it, I will try and explain it a bit clearer.

    Hi Mark,

I little harsh on the site comment.

    Your Quote:
"SI-912-016 is as clear as it comes."

"If you use leaded fuel primarily (all the time), change your oil at 25hrs."

This was all Art and I was trying to point out and was the original question.

"If you use leaded fuel more than 30% of the time, change your oil at 50hrs.
If you use unleaded fuel ( fuel that doesn't have lead in), change your oil at 100hrs."

I do get a personal opinion and I was only pointing out what seems to be the generally accepted and school taught methods in the field and I agreed with you on what it said in the SI.

As I said there are personal preferences and ranges and that's all I alluded to.

    Chill Roger,

Where has 75hrs for a plug change come from?

    Rotax recommend 200hrs.

At 75hrs, if the engine is set up and running right, the plugs will be like new.

I don't understand where you are coming from.

If the plugs need changing at 75hrs, you need a good engine overhaul or a new mechanic.

If I changed my spark plugs as often as you suggest, it would be every 10 days.
