    Hi Roger,

I also have the access issue on a Kitfox IV with the tank mounted behind and above the generator cover. I wanted to use the quick drain you linked to but it extends too far down.

Would there be any issue with installing the appropriate thread to hose fitting and routing it to a more accessible location with a hose to female and plug on the drain end?

A side question - will an oil change easily allow air to get into the suction side with the tank mounted as high as it is in the Kitfox IV?

Oil tanks do have a certain upper and lower limit in relation to the engine. You can find it in the installation manual.

This is more my personal thought vs the installation and maint. manual and I'm interested in other people's thoughts so post away.

For your remote drain hose mount you could do it. I personally haven't seen one like this, but see no reason why it wouldn't work. That said make sure you use a good quality hose and fittings. Put it in fire sleeve and keep it away from hot exhaust pipes.Too much at stake to go cheap and lose the oil in flight. Using an oil hose off the bottom of the tank won't be any different than a regular oil change and your tank height shouldn't be an issue. KitFox hasn't been one to follow some of the installation rules and in the earlier days did cause an issue or two.

There are some oil tank installations from an MFG's that require you to remove the tank to do an oil change. What a pain.

Thanks Roger for taking the time to respond.

Searching the TeamKitfox forum reveals that others have successfully been removing the oil tank top and suctioning the oil out.
