    Gents,

I thought that I would give you an update now I've done half the job. Removing cylinders #2 & #4 I found a relatively 'thick' oil film on the cylinder wall, particularly at the bottom. I inspected the rings and they looked fine and the markings were on the 'top side' as they should be.

I inspected the cylinder heads particularly in the ports and there was no sign of oil there.

My question is how much of an oil film should there be in the cylinders and should it 'pool' slightly at the bottom?

Hopefully I'll have time to look at the other 2 cylinders tomorrow.

I have now inspected all cylinders and all the rings look good. Some of the ring gaps were closely aligned on one of the cylinders but they were not installed like that so they must move during operation.

Not quite sure what to do next!

It is normal to have some oil pooled in the bottom of the cylinder, mostly the back cylinders (you usually don't get to see it as the rings scrap it off when you pull the cylinder off)
I would re-align the rings and put it back together. They do rotate a little bit over many hours of operation and sometimes do align with each other.
