Having changed the oil 76 hours ago (December 2015), pouring 3 liters after emptying the tank, no top up necessary so far; I now (August 2016) read above max level, even without turning the prop. Anything wrong or is it due to hiht OAT (> 30°C)?

any smell of gas in the oil tank?
If so the fuel pump seal is bad.

Are you using auto fuel or 100LL?

I have also seen this several times when diesel fuel is in the auto gas.

You can also take an oil sample and have it tested and then you'll know for sure.

    Hi James,

Diesel fuel sometimes isn't flushed out of an auto fuel hose properly before the tank driver dumps into the regular unleaded fuel side. This isn't all that uncommon. You would never know in a car. It seems though that people using contaminated auto fuel with some diesel causes the oil level to rise because the diesel fuel migrates towards the oil. Then people check their oil level and it seems to increase. I have seen more than 2 dozen cases of this and have read about it right here on our forum. When I first saw this we took oil samples and sent them to the lab for confirmation. If the original poster had an overfill it would have showed up right away, but his level increased over time. There is no other way to increase the oil volume that is already in an engine unless you add it or it migrates from somewhere else. The only other fluids then become coolant or some fuel based fluid.
