Hello,

After half a year I planned to make a flight in my FK14B with a ROTAX ULS 100hp engine. Installed a LIFePo battery with a Silent Hektik regulator.

After applying the master switch all electrical equipment are alive.

Then I applied the starter button and after a few prop rotations all went dead.

All fuses OK including the 20A one.

What could be the problem? Starter relay?

Simply give you battery a good recharge. Most LiFePo pack contain a balancer that cuts off the pack when it’s voltage droppes below a certain voltage (to save the pack). I recon the starter current pulled the voltage below that voltage. It‘ll all be fine after a thourough recharge.

Sorry I forgot to mention: battery was fine even after the dead situation.

Looking now also at loose connections.

Did you charge the battery before you installed it?
They are shipped with <30% charge for transportation safety reasons.
A Lithium Battery showing 12.0 volts is nearly dead.
It will run the lights and radio just fine.
Engine Starting will be a different story.

The battery is nearly one year old and is in good shape: 13.8 V after the issue.

If you attempt a second start does it crank for a short period? or Not at all?
If you have ruled out the battery, the connections are the next suspect.

Uncowl the engine, and whether it cranks or not, hold the starter for a full 5 seconds while a trusted observer monitors the engine.
If the bad connection is not seen to smoke, Cautiously feel all the connections in the starter circuit.
Be careful, the bad one may be Branding Iron HOT!
Do not forget to consider the ground and bonding cables.
