Hello everybody,

Has anyone paired a new module-A with and old module-B (or, vice-versa)?

We have a production 28 / 2001 model Rotax 912 ULS. Recently, we've replaced the sprag clutch. Afraid to brake it again, we also got a new Soft Start type module-A. The idea was to start w/SSM (module-A), then switch to BOTH.

There are 2 separate Kill Switches for L & R (and a rotary Master Switch). "R" commands the module-A.

Unfortunately, there is no info available. We've made the connections (and some corrections) as shown in the attached PNG (changed LEFT (A) 6+4+1 style socket connectors to 6+6 style).

However now, when only "R" is ON, all 8 plugs spark. When only "L" is ON, no spark at all. Also, this way, I'm afraid ATDC (SSM) and BTDC timings of R and L (or, T & B, or, A & B) are mixed.

I am suspecting the connections to the twin black coils (marked as 16) at the bottom of the diagram. From left black coil, the wire goes through the left connector, crosses the lower wire group and goes into the upper group on module-A. Whereas, the old one used to go in the lower group instead.

Any ideas?

New Module-A # 965444 16.1155 (6+6 type connectors)
Old Module-A # 966721 01.1195 (6+4+1 type connectors)

Kind Regards,
Al

You should stay with the same modules and not mix.

Essentially internally there is no difference inside the older module compared to the new type. The 6x6 and 6x4 are wired pretty much the same although I would have thought a 2001 engine would have had the old 4 wire module (4 way male plug and the rest being flywires) If you have the 6x4 modules the only real difference is the kill wire for your mag switches is the fly wire the 4 way and 6 way are gender reversed. Most likely you havent got it wired correctly

the male 6 way on the new module carries the wires going to the coils the female carries the wires from the pickups at the flywheel
Your 6x4 originals the 4 way male plug carries the pickup wires and the 6 way female carries the coils wires

The colours are the same to what coil pickups. You may also have the phasing wrong. The yellow and white wires maybe crossed over which will be the wrong phasing for the coils
