My 914 has 400 hours on it.  I can normally go from idle to full throttle (5800 rpm and 40" MAP) without noticable hesitation. But just the other day, with full throttle on takeoff, the engine hesitated at 5500 rpm for about three seconds then continued to accelate to red line (or just under) rpm and MAP, then ran normally.  My local Rotax guy in Seattle said this was normal and was attributable to turbo lag.  But I'd never experienced a noticable lag before and I'm wondering if this is really normal.

One of the reasons for turbo lag that I have experienced is that the inside of the exhaust part of the turbo rusts/corroids away and the clearance between housing and the blades increases which lowers the efficency due to exhaust gas blow by. This also causes it to take longer to spin up.

Thanks.  I've been meaning to remove the muffler and check the inside and lube the shaft, but haven't figured out how to access a couple of the hard to get to retaining nuts.
