I have a 912 ULS in a RV12 with engine instruments displayed on a Dynon D180.  Total time is 423.

yesterday the Left EGT was extremely erratic bouncing from the 300’s to 1200’s every second while the Right EGT remained rock solid.  The engine was running normally.  Happened on ground, taxiing, and in cruise.

From what I have read so far an EGT probe failure is often preceded by erratic fluctuations prior to total failure.  I have also read to check connections which I will do today.

My first plan was to switch the probes to see if the erratic reading follow.

if they do is it safe to conclude the probe is bad? What EGT probe is recommended for the Rotax 912??

I had a similar problem; besides being erratic it also slowly began to give inaccurate readings. Its not uncommon for these things to go bad after a number of years (mine was about600 hours). I have the Dynon Skyview and the Dynon EGT probes. I strongly recommend you replace BOTH probes because the "good" one probably has little life left in it and two new ones will give more accurate readings; they are not that expensive and are quite easily replaced.

The Dynon website will give you the right one for the Rotax 912.

Sounds like you need to replace the bad probe.
