Re: Fuel pressure regulator - $400 from Rotax or $22 online
by Roger Lee » 4 weeks ago
Hi RW,
I use almost all OEM parts. The only thing I buy in bulk and not from a service center is fuel and coolant hose. Even the service centers use different hoses. For me it's a liability issue and that's why I use OEM parts. I can defend that in court. You can't defend aftermarket parts if there is an incident.
I still like to research, test, explore and question things. That's how we / I learn and progressively move forward. I hate the word tradition. To me that just means stagnant and things remaining old school and no new ideas moving forward.

The $400 Rotax sourced fuel pressure regulator is identical to the $20 Bosch fuel pressure regulator when held next to each other. The only difference is the part number.

i disagree. It it was "absolutely" identical then the numbers would match. Clearly the seals are not the same color. In soft parts like that it suggests a different formula for the seal material. Bosch, like many other companies, make parts that vary in quality depending on who buys them.
Just my opinion

Isn't it possible being soaked in fuel for 5 or 6 years could slightly change the color? Or even they could have just changed the color over the years at the factory. We are talking about a part that is at least 6 years older.
Part numbers can be (and often are) different just because of "capitalism."

The same part number from Rotax has been used for more than 10 years. Insisting it is the same even without matching numbers on the parts is your issue, not mine. I don't believe they are.
If you are flying an experimental great, use it. i am perplexed at why you got a Rotax and want to use nothing from Rotax if you can avoid it.
Without "capitalism" there would be no new engines.
Of course this is my opinion, as you have yours.
Cheers
