Noticeable vibration at 200+ hours 912iS Sport

    I have an appointment with Lockwood on May 14th. They will remove the gearbox and apply whatever “fix” is currently available. Shims and possibly a gear set. I’ll keep all posted.


    Today is the day. Keep us posted.

    I logged 4.7 hours this weekend. Stayed in the 4,500-5,500' range. No vibration at any speed. Strange that mine seems to correlate with higher altitude.:unsure:

    Weather finally cooperated and made it to Lockwood. Had the plane finished by noon. They reshimmed and replaced 3 spring discs in the gearbox. The engine was noticeably quieter in idle. None of the “clackity clack” the gearbox seems to produce at idle. I always idle the engine at near 2000 rpm to avoid that regime. The engine seemed smoother in flight and for now the vibration is gone.

    Again Joe at Lockwood assured me they are working on a permanent fix as Rotax is having to pay for these temporary fixes. Hopefully we will see this permanent fix soon.

    All good news! Especially the part about Rotax paying for the repairs.

    My vibration returned last weekend. It still seems to correlate with IAS. As long as I kept it below a certain speed it is fine.
