Other than using the proper operating media are there any other precautions when operating the iS in a cold weather environment?

    Hi Jim,

A good engine pre-heater in cold climates is a good idea. The tanis system is a top choice. That said I do not know if they have something that works with the 912iS so you would have to call.

Take some kind of measure to keep oil and coolant temps up while flying. Other than that wear a warm jacket. ;)

Below what outside temp would you recommend pre-heating the iS?

Let's see what Rob and these guys weigh in at for a number. I would say anything below freezing. In some well insulated hangars the engine isn't as cold as the OAT. Some guys help stave off cold air with lightbulbs and a blanket. All sorts of ways. I tend to like the Tanis preheater, but it cost more than a couple light bulbs. :)

    Could you elaborate on this?

I believe I saw that at 60°F or below that it's recommended to preheat . I pre-heat at 10°C or lower, less warm up time.
