All the information I've read on here and other places seems a bit dated, so I'm just trying to establish exactly what Saf Air oil drain valve accessories I need for a new 912iS.

Obviously I need the oil valve (M12175) but I'm trying to establish whether I also need the adaptor (RM12175). I understand this was brought in to solve a clearance problem with the original valve but I don't know in the interim if Saf Air have now adapted their valves permanently, since all the oil tanks are now based on the 912iS design (according to my Internet reading).

Is anyone able to advise me if I have to buy the adaptor for a new model engine?

Thank you.

    Just curious.
What's wrong with just the standard drain plug?

Personally I wouldn't use them at all and Rotax isn't a fan. One reason I don't like them is they are slow to drain which doesn't give you a good tank flush like pulling the standard drain plug. Plus the oil change goes a lot faster.
You are right that some of these contact the bottom plate of the tank.

I like the idea of having the oil draining down through a pipe and, neatly, into a container instead of a gush of warm oil over my hands and then using a cobbled together drip tray to stop the stuff going everywhere. While it's draining I'll get on with other things.

I know the adapter was designed to stop the problem of contact with the plate but that was some time ago and I just don't know if the most up-to-date valve still needs the adapter or not.

    you will need the adaptor.
All 912iS engines and all engines since October 2013 have the new oil tank with the convex partition (also known as stand-off plate or screen mount) that does not allow the quick drain to open fully unless the adaptor is installed.

Thanks Rob. That was just what I needed; a clear 'yes' or 'no'. :-)

    reviving an old thread, but...

The current IPC seems to show the oil-tank screen mount Bob Seaton mentioned, above, as item 4 in Fig. 79-20-00-1. When you look at the listing on the next page, they label it "Partition 2".  But can someone explain why it's shown as "n.a." and with no part number?  Is it because it's considered integral to the tank itself?
