I need to change my 914 muffler. Is there a torque spec on the nuts that I must remove? Do I need to use any antiseize on the threads? Any other tips from those who have done before?

    Ken,

There is a torque spec for the nuts. You can find them in the installation manual under the support tab at the top of the page. As for antisieze, I am a firm believer in that stuff, especially in areas of high heat like the exhaust manifold bolts. Another reason for the antisieze in this area are the dissimilar metals. I may be wrong, but I think the manifold nuts are aluminum on a steel bolt.

    Thanks for the input, Bill.

I did find a torque spec in the Heavy Main Manual for the muffler nuts of 18.5 ft lbs. No mention of antiseize but I agree that would be normal procedure.
