Flydat not displaying hobbs

All sensors, probes, connections, wiring, fuse, etc, etc. is all in working order. I've been working with Dean over the phone @ Lockwood on this and he's went through everything he can come up with. We're down to replacing the unit with a new one "plug and play" deal with existing wiring. $1300.00 from Lockwood. So the problem once again is the hobbs is not displayed in the bottom left corner. There is however "3 flashing dashes" in that spot. Thoughts? Send it for repair? open it up myself?
