Carb air vent lines

What is the optimum length of the Air Vent Line , attached to the air vent nipple, of a Bing Carburetor 64-3
when carburetor air filters are used in place of the Air Intake Silencer?

    Robert,

    I don't really know if there is an optimum length. Since my installation is an open air pusher, mine are about three feet long. Had to do this to route them to a location out of the airstream and they work fine. I would think that any length that keeps any overflow away from the hot exhaust or electrical components and also out of the airstream would work. I have seen them as short as 4" and longer than mine.

    Some route them right into the air filter or air box.
    There isn't an optimum length, but they need to get the same pressure and should stay out of the air stream.

    I have a Ran7s. The directions do not say where the vent line should be routed to. Any one know?

    Hi Larry,

    These carb vents tubes can be setup different ways. Some leave them short about 4 " long and tuck them into the side of the wire bale along the carb bowl. (You should have carb drip trays in any setup to prevent and fuel from dripping on a hot exhaust. Carbs can and do leak)
    Some owners have routed them back into an air box like Rotax does. Then some have them routed back to the firewall and down to the bottom of the cowl. Do not stick these out in the air stream. Keep them trimmed back just inside the cowl. Wherever you place them the carbs need to have more or less equal pressure. So if you routed them back down the firewall they should terminate in the same place.

    Thank you. Not sure what a wire bale is but will go look today. I take it that the principle is that gas vapor my be coming out of these vents and that they need to be safely routed.
