Hi

I put power on to my new build today and the 'AVIA' brand oil temp gauge is reading about 97 deg C. I have not run the engine yet and it's a new gauge. Every thing else on the instrument panel looks ok.

Any informtion about if this will be ok when I start the engine? Engine is a 912ULS-2.

Battery disconnected and gauge still showing 97 deg.

What I did was after checking all connections and circuits I put power onto the master switch then closed the instrument switch and the oil temp guage moved. The engine is isolated and has not been run; its new.

I then turned off the instrument switch and master switch and discinnected the battery.

Any information about what may be wrong is appreciated.

Thanks
Mike

    Hi Mike,

Without a little more this may be hard to diagnose, but it sure sounds like a wiring issue. I think I would double check the connection setup for this. I would start at the very beginning for this and check everything including the wiring diagrams. Sounds like something is hooked up wrong.

    Thanks Roger

I have got a reply from Aviasport. Seems may be a sticky needle and tapping the gauge resulted in the needle going back to the 50 deg C mark. Then I applied the 12 volts and it rose to 62 deg C and stayed there. I've let Avia know and looking at a replacement possibility.

Does the needle on the temp guage go up first on start up? I don't recall ever seeing or noticing that the needle moves other than as the engine oil temp is increasing.

I'll look over the wiring again; its in the group of guages and the positive is from the same looped source and the gound is the same looped circuit with a 18 size sensor hookup wiring.

    Regards
    Mike
