Hi.

I'm new to this forum so please excuse me if this topic has been discussed earlier.

I have a 912S with 900 hours on it. I just saw that NGK is offering a "racing" spark plug and they claim:

Laser Platinum® spark plugs provide high ignitability and longer service life. Dual platinum surfaces ensure slow wear rate providing stable idle, superior anti fouling, improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions.

Is it safe to use these in a Rotax 912 and does any of you have experinces with this spark plug? I suppose that "slow wear rate" means that I have to change spark plugs less frequently?

Hello Steen, You probably won't get much of a response from most, especially Rotax technicians.
You're moving into an unknown experimental situation.
The standard plugs work and require replacement at (I think) 200 hrs.
Many change them at 100hrs. They are quite cheap.
These plugs, Laser Platinum, may work well and better but it's just not how this Rotax forum operates.
Good luck if you give them a go....

I'll be happy to chime in. The standard Plugs are cheap at about $2 - $2.75 ea. A great many of us will even change them out at 75 hrs. It's a small price to keep good quality parts in operation for an expensive high quality engine and the piece of mind that a worn plug won't act up when you least want it to.
The end user will probably never be able to see or tell a running difference between the two plugs so other than leaving them in and saving $25 once a year there may not be any real advantage. Plug MFG's have been making all kinds of claims for many decades.
