    Mike,

That does sound like a GSC prop. They make a very nice product. Don't often hear of a prop suddenly gaining pitch but I guess it could. If all your temps and mag drops are in the proper range, oil in the gearbox and rotary valve gallery, no unusual noises when running or hand pulling the prop, I would check the pitch. If you check the Perkins Powered Parachute website, he has a great electronic pitch gauge for about $20.00 US.

Its easy to use. Just turn one blade to horizontal (tip to hub) and hold or clamp the gauge to the tip on the flat side of the blade. The engine doesn't have to be level in any axis, just so the blade is horizontal. Then just loosen the blade hub and twist the blade to change the angle. There is no starting angle. Just pick a blade, check the existing pitch, and take out one degree. Then set the other blades to the same reading. After that just check the WOT speed and adjust pitch as necessary.

    Bill.

One other thing you might check is compression. Stuck rings can cost you horsepower. This is not something that happens suddenly but its easy to check.
