I just spoke with the head of the iRMT program, and here is the story:

They have been working on a COVID plan for some time now, and for the moment, all expiring certifications are extended until further notice.

In the not-too-distant future, the maintenance and service renewals will all be done ONLINE. The global infrastructure is currently being tested for this, and when it's ready to go live, upcoming renewals will be conducted online, and iRMT members will be advised accordingly. This is likely to start in Autumn of 2020. But for now, consider your iRMT expiry date has been extended.

As for the Heavy Maintenance, it's not practical to do renewals online (due to HM's more 'hands-on' nature). So current iRMT Heavy certificates will be extended farther into the future - probably for the next year at least.

There are plans to potentially hold limited 'social-distanced' physical training classes in certain 'bubbles' in countries that have been spared from heavy COVID outbreaks. But that depends on a lot of factors, as this pandemic is a long way from finished, and could actually get worse over the coming months. More information will be forthcoming as the situation develops!

But the important takeaway for iRMT certificate holders is: all expiring certifications are extended until further notice.

Update: there are some iRMT trainings now available ( very limited seats due to social distancing).

Courses are available now from Aug 2020 through Jan 2021 at various training centers around the world

Good news for iRMT holders and people who want to get qualified for iRMT.  Face to face training has started again with the relaxing of social gatherings by most regions.

What has developed also is there is an online renewal that can be done if you do not wish to travel or leave home, talk to your training center.  Currently all 3 iSC, independent training centres, in the USA will begin classes this fall.  Rotech in Canada also has one scheduled for September 2021 as well.  Central and South America will be starting in 2022 with face to face training as those countries get better control over the Pandemic.  We are aware that in South Africa they are doing online renewals as well.

What does this imply for the "extended until further notice" policy?

Good question.  With the introduction the last half of 2020 of online renewal for Service and Maintenance there is now a way to renew from your home or workplace.  Face to face training has also been scheduled and starts in September 2021 again with the relaxing of Covid rules in most places.  There is no longer any reason to not renew your training and we encourage everyone to contact their independent training centre for more details.

I note that for Canada classes are scheduled for September.  in the USA there are dates set already for Sept, Oct and November and into 2022 already.  Online renewals are also being done in South Africa and some parts of Latin America.  I do not have any information on Europe but contact with your distributor should answer that question.

    Cheers
