Additional Information

What is this Service Bulletin about and how does it affect me?

Due to deviations in the manufacturing process of the valve push-rod assembly, partial wear on the rocker arm ball socket may occur. This wear might lead to a rocker arm cracking / fracture which in consequence may lead to a malfunction of the valve train. Possible effects are rough running engine or an unusual engine operating behavior.

If your engine falls within the affected S/N range listed within the bulletin, an inspection and/or replacement of the valve push-rod is necessary.

If your engine doesn’t fall within the S/N range listed within this Service Bulletin, your engine may still be affected if the pushrods have been replaced after June 8th, 2016 during overhaul or repair.

When must the inspection take place if my engine is affected?

• Before the initial installation in an aircraft and/or the initial start-up thereafter.
• At the next ROTAX® scheduled maintenance event or within the next 25 hours of operation, but at the latest after 200 days (from the date of the initial issue of this Service Bulletin).
• In the event of a rough running engine , or unusual engine operating behavior, carry out inspection in accordance to this Service Bulletin before the next flight.

NOTE:
All affected parts cannot be re-used and must be returned F.O.B to ROTAX® Authorized distributors or their independent Service Centers. Further sale, use or shipment of all valve push-rods part no. 854861 produced in the affected time period (as of June 08th, 2016 until October 02nd, 2017), in stores (e.g. replacement parts) are also affected, must undergo a visual inspection of valve push-rods as per section 3.1.2 of this SB and if found not OK must be returned F.O.B. to ROTAX® Authorized distributors or their independent Service Centers.

How much will it cost if my engine is affected?

• No estimated labor hours are given as labor time will depend on airframe installation.
• Price and availability will be provided on request by ROTAX® Authorized Distributors or their independent Service Centers.
• Shipping costs, downtime costs, loss of income, telephone costs etc. or costs of conversion to other engine versions or additional work, as for instance simultaneous engine overhauls are not covered in this scope and will not be borne or reimbursed by ROTAX®

What must be done if my engine is affected?

If your engine falls within the affected S/N range listed within the bulletin OR had the valve push rods replaced after June 8th 2016, a visual inspection of the pushrods must be accomplished following the instructions found within the Service Bulletin.

Color Evaluation
Silver Surface Valve push-rod is OK.

  • ROTAX® - Airworthiness representatives
  • ROTAX® - Authorized Distributors or their independent Service Centers
  • Persons approved by the respective Aviation Authority
  • Persons with approved qualifications for the corresponding engine types. Only authorized persons (iRMT, Level Heavy Maintenance) are entitled to carry out this work.
