Question for Peter Anderson: You reference a pressure regulator problem with the current 912 fuel pump. I have been chasing fixes for a fuel pressure fluctuation problem for two months. Could you tell me what the symptoms of the regulator problem are? I have no fuel leaks at the weep holes and I have been told that is the only way they will replace a FP under warranty.

Between the Dynon sensor, which they admit ain't all that accurate at the low end and the rumors about the Rotax FP, I really don't know what's going on with my fuel pressure from minute to minute.

Sure. Some time ago, before the RV12, there was an SB on the fuel pump. The problem was that the internal regulator couldn't manage additional input from a boost pump...resulting in unusually high (6&7 psi) readings. The replacements must not have been an improvement since they have now switched companies entirely. Though my engine was made after the SB, as of late (224 hours) I have had the same difficulties...high readings. I finally wired up an on/off switch for the Facet and only use it on T/O and Landings. When the new pump is avail in the U.S. I will buy one.

p.s. I sent you a pic of the lint in my gascolator some time back

Pete, Yep your lint looked like my lint. That gascolator doesn't have much filtering capacity when it all piles up in one place like that. My screen's gonna get pulled each oil change.

Do you know if anybody experienced low or fluctuating fuel pressure with the old pump or was it strictly an over-pressure problem? No, I haven't looked up the SB yet...

If you install the fuel pump in parallel you won't have high pressures and there is no real reason to run both pumps at the same time. The fuel pressure issue is in series only. It's a good setup if you loose fuel pressure, but most of us never use an electric pump even for take off and landing.

Yeah Roger, you're right. Some of us built RV12's as ELSA's which meant we had to follow Van's directions exactly. Once completed of course we can do do anything we want and we have all done minor improvements. In this case, I wired the electric pump to an on/off switch (it was designed to run continuously) and have of course turned it off. It will be interesting to get more info about the new pump...price, durability etc. Appreciate your insight on this forum..you obviously have a good amount of experience with 912's. Thanks.

Jim. No I don't know of anyone else with a 12 that has had that problem, but I do know of many people that have had a failed fuel pump...some in the first 25 hours.
