My 2007 Evektor SportStar with 912 ULS Rotax has a charging problem. Seems most problems others have had is with the Ducati rectifier/regulator. Can anyone tell me how to test the regulator to see if it is working properly? I have an auxiliary generator wired to an independent regulator that is working fine.

    Hi Raymond,

Look at section 74-00-00 page 16 in the Heavy Maint. manual. It will tell you how to check the reg/rec.
Could you have caused a problem with two separate systems?

    Roger,

Thanks for the advice. I'm new to this powered flight, feeling like the fat kid who is running as hard as I can wondering if I'll ever catch up!

Is the "Heavy Maint." manual a Rotax manual? Where can I find one?

I am enrolled with Rainbow Aviation to take the LSARM class beginning Oct. 17 with the Rotax add-on. Looking forward to getting "fit" to handle my airplane mechanics.

Glad to have this forum to find answers. I've been using it as a last resort but from now on it will be my primary source becuase I actually get the anwers I need!

    Hi Raymond,

All the Rotax manuals can be found on the tab at the top of this page under "Support" then open the subtab that says engine manuals. The Heavy maint. manual will be down second from the bottom. Download all the maint manuals and the parts manual. You will need all of them off and on. You can get all the Service Bulletins here on the website, too. Congrats for deciding to take the Rainbow LSRM-A course. You will need to add the other Rotax courses separately to have a good handle on the Rotax engine. Lots of good people here on this forum to help you out, too.

Got it. Printed it. On my way to the hangar with my multimeter. Will let you know what I find....

Back from the hangar. Values tested right in the middle on the generator coils. Test ran and the charging system is working fine. Should I be happy? (This happened once already- primary generator was not charging but started working after wiggling wires around. Flew for 45 minutes and primary quite charging.)

Seems I've got an intermittent problem. I have only 355 hours on the airplane. Anyone else ever take something apart that wasn't working and couldn't find anything wrong, only to put it back together and have it "fix" it's self? I will keep an eye on the charging system and stay close to home for a few hours flying to see if the problem comes up again.

Couldn't find any guidance on testing the regulator.
