    Hi Clyde

You have asked for some help and we have gone out of our way to suggest things for you to try. Have you tried what I have suggested or are you waiting for something easier to be suggested.

    Hi Roger

I think we will agree to disagree on the rpm range to balance the carbs, although I am going to look at this veeeerrryyy closely tomorrow and I will be reporting back :-).
I do agree with you about using gauges as apposed to the electronic balancer as you can actually see what is going on..

    Cheers Mark.

    Hi Mark,

No problems with me on agreeing to disagree. It's what makes the world go round and a learning enviroment. :)

In my first post I said the problem started suddenly. The owner flew into an airport, had lunch and when he was taking off after lunch had a power loss. So something happened between takeoff at his home field and take off after lunch. The carbs didn't all of a sudden become unbalanced. This wasn't gradual or the result of some maintenance being performed. The question is what could it have been to cause normal operation on the flight in and abnormal operation on the flight out? I will rebuild the carbs when I get the carb kits. I will re-balance the carbs after rebuilding them the way I was taught by Eric Tucker in all the Rotax engine classes I have been to since 2001. The carb flange is new and installed according to the maintenance manual at the correct torque specs, it shouldn't be leaking. The exhaust system wasn't changed between flying in to the airport and flying out. The owner tells me all the engine instrument readings are normal while he is flying except the RPM. The one thing I will be doing is checking the aircraft tach with an accurate optical prop tach to see if there is any error. Appreciate the thought guys but so far nothing new has been suggested.
