Suring the 25 hour inspection of the megnetic plug of an 80 h.p. 912 engine I found a very thin metal chip approximately 2 mm long (see picture). Oil filter mat was fine. Do I need to send the gearbox for inspection?

Thanks,

    Miguel,

If this is the first 25 hr. inspection on the engine since new and the oil filter was clean, you don't need to inspect the gearbox. It is not unusual to find a small chip or two during the first inspection. I would inspect it again in five or ten hours however, and see if you find more. You probably will not find anything next time other than the tiny bits of powdery particles that are normal. It's just very hard, if not impossible, to get out every tiny piece of stray metal when assembling the engine.

    Bill.
