oil change - gasket ring verse

Hello,
just a simple question.
During oil change you must change gasket ring no°250010, a crushed copper ring with parting line.
When installing a new one is it correct that the parting line must be toward plug (i.e. vs bottom) and not versus hole (i.e. versus top) ? it seems logical to have solid side of gasket towards oilseal side but it better to ask the experts!
