Hi All,

912 ULS with 180 hrs TT. I have only 15 hrs on this engine since I bought this Apollo Fox. Some days I get High Oil Pressure Warnings (Enigma Stratomaster) throughout the entire flight. Other days nothing at all. I've cleaned wire contacts to sender repeatedly and hand tightened as hard as I can No rhyme or reason between warnings and cleaning contact points or days when I will or will not get high pressure readings. Ordered and received an oil pressure sensor from Lockwood, just in case.

Prior to Thursday, never any cautions/warnings on low/high oil temperature. Thursday, the Enigma showed low oil temp on start -up and throughout warm-up. Waited & waited but it stayed low, OAT 93 F so I for waited for CHT to reach 170 before run up. But through 8 touch & go's it always showed low oil temp (but no high oil pressure warnings on Thursday).

Jeez, I'm getting dizzy trying to figure this out. What's with this? Gremlins or sensor replacements needed? And for my info, where is the oil temperature sensor located. Nothing on this site or that I can find on Rotax Tech site. Ideas? Insight? Suggestions? Thanks.

    Hi Jeff,

    Here is my bet:

    It is possible you have a bad wire. Sounds like a loose ground somewhere since it is affecting more than one reading.
    My guess is you have a loose ground wire. Tighten all of them in the system. In the engine compartment and in the instrument console.

    If this doesn't work;

    You may have won the lottery here and have two different issues. (I would be surprised if this was it) One, the oil pressure sender is going bad and or you still have the old oil plug screw and ball bearing pressure regulator. If you do then spend the $75 and take the 5 minutes to put the new parts in. Oil plug screw, new spring and oil pressure mushroom.

    Let us know what you find.

    Hi Jeff,

    After you check the wires and grounding to your engine monitor I would check the following:

    Have you ckecked your oil level and coolant level? The mechanical conductive slider inside an oil pressure sender can wear out prematurely due to rapid pressure pulses wearing out the contacts. In many cases this results in a high oil pressure reading (VDO senders). In my Jabiru I had a pressure sender fail and it would occasionally show 80 psi (it was a 0-80psi sender) occasionally during taxi after warm up and flight. VDO senders in a Jabiru typically last about 500 hours, then start acting like yours.

    Low oil temperature, if it really is low, while pressure Is high can indicate an obstruction in the oil high pressure system, or within the engines galleys. The oil gets hot by flowing past hot parts. This helps cool the engine. You could have two problems at once. Two days ago while working on a 912 I had three engine problems at once. Start at one (the pressure sender) and logically go through a process of elimination. There are lots of parts replacers out there, but fewer troubleshooters. Those tend be be called engineers.

    Good luck, enjoy the challenge. In the end you will have a better relationship with your engine by getting to know her better.

    I am getting similar problems. I have an MGL display ( forgot the model). Oil pressure looks good for the first few hours after an oil change but then starts to read high and lower power settings. When I go to high-power about 5000 RPM it goes back to normal readings.

    Do you have the new oil pressure parts? The new style plug screw and oil pressure regulator (mushroom). It may help regulate the pressure better. Loose grounds will also cause oil pressure fluctuations and a bad sending unit.

    If you interject air into certain parts of the system (around the sender) it can cause fluctuations.
