    Howdy,

Can you be a little more specific and exactly what we're looking at? I think I know I just want to be sure.

The Black Intake Port on a 912UL we understand.

Does the Black "Stuff" wipe off if you rub your finger on it?
How many hours has it been run?
    Engine always been running smoothly?
Is your Air filter Black Also?
Desert, Mountains, Jungle, or Sea Shore area?

The Devil is in the Details.

Problem is that I don't know history of this engine. I just got it and replacing tubes, overhauling carburetors etc.
Engine was running rough, I hope problem will be gone with new carburetors, re-adjusted gap in pickup coils etc.
This contamination is black, dry and don't want to go out by finger. I'll try some chemistry later.

It isn't normal and several things can cause it. Top three things that can cause this are Carbs need rebuilding, air filter dirty or too restrictive, mixture screw on the carbs not set correctly and possibly a leaking valve. Do a differential compression test.
