Hi all,

I'm experiencing with an oil leak (rated one small drop in one hour) located in the the upper portion of the oil return tube of the cylinder 4, between the return tube and the cylinder head as I show in the figure attached . The engine is a Rotax 912 ULS and no overheating sign is present.

The Heavy MM section 73.00.00 page 75 say, if oil leak is present in that area, to remove and replace the tube following the detailed procedure.

Based on your and field experience, in these case of small leakage in that area, what do you suggest ?
Replace the tube in any case or keep an eye and see if the leak is stable ? I've seen in Internet some guys sealing the part with small amount of RTV sealant (the red aeronautical one) just outside the edge between the tube and the head.
Have you ever seen this last sealant solution ?

Personally if all I was seeing was 1 drop an hour I would leave it alone and keep an eye on it. This may be more a personal decision over a real mechanical issue one.

I thought I had a leak there also. I resealed the valve cover and the problem went away.

I do agree with Ernest. Many times the leak is under the bottom edge of the valve cover. It's more of a weep than a real leak. I've seen some you could fix and some you couldn't. It's more of an irritant than a real leak.

Apparenly the leak was in the valve cover. I've used a developer spry to detect the leak. I've found the o-ring in poor condition and I've replaced it. Looks all right now after ground run but let's see if the leak is still present after some flight.
I let you know as soon I have feedback.
