Hi, I need some advise,,,,,

recently I noticed a small oil leak that seem to come from behind the generator. All the pickup coil are wet and a small amount of oil is dripping underneath the engine.
Any idea ???

Is it safe to fly with a wet generator ?

engine is a 912 ULS with 160 hours on it.

No, you should not fly it with a substantial oil leak in this area.
    Two likely sources of oil:
1-rear crankshaft seal: clean area and do a short test run, use a mirror or borescope to look behind flywheel. the ignition housing needs to come off to replace this seal.
2- 9 o'clock screw: This screw goes into the pressurized crankcase are so it needs to be sealed. Clean area and test run, look for oil around this screw. remove and reapply loctite 243 and torque to 90inlbs.

Rob -- How difficult is it to access the "9-o'clock" screw for an inspect/ reseal? I assume that the rear plastic Ign Cover has to be removed. Do the Mag Ring and Stator have to be removed for access to this "9-o'clock"screw? Thanks -- David

    Thanks Rob,
I cleaned it this morning and went to a short flight ( 1 hour )
still a few drops of oil underneath the coolant pump. Can't see the 9 o'clock screw. I talked to a Rotax medrano today who is suppose to look at it next week.

You can see the 9 o'clock screw from the side: just forward (towards prop) of the tach trigger coil is a cooling slot. the stator wires exit in the slot above this slot. the screw is between these slots.
Use a small mirror and flashlight to inspect the area.

Thanks Rob -- If this screw is leaking and needs to be re-sealed, do the Mag Ring and Stator have to be removed for access to this "9-o'clock"screw? -- David
