I heard through the grape vine or maybe the tomato vine that a change in float MFG caused the chemical compound to not be 100%.It took time to correct it. Just like Bing still uses cork gaskets where Rotax uses rubber bowl gaskets.

    Hi Roger,

I understand fully that Bing is the supplier of carburettors to Rotax and that Bing may be at fault in this matter, however I purchased my engine from Rotax. I did not purchase it as a kit, built up from separately sourced components . Whatever arrangements Rotax have with component suppliers (like Bing) is between them (not with me). Rotax took my dough, therefor my contract is with Rotax - Rotax is responsible (at least in my mind).

That Rotax (Bing) have started production (way back when) of the 912, with a functional/durable float and then through 4 variations (different suppliers??) not been able come up with an equally functional/durable float is appalling. That Rotax charge owners to replace dysfunctional floats is equally appalling. Yes I know Rotax has had a, limited time, replacement policy in the past past but until they have a durable float, that does not need to be replaced after a short period in service, their free replacement policy should continue indefinitely (fairs fair).

    Rant over?

"Rotax replaced a lot of floats"- as they should Roger and still should be, if my floats, at only a few hours, are already fuel "logged".

    New floats delivered - 6.30gm/pair & 6.32gm/pair.

Will let you know if they stop the fuel overflow.

    Hi Sean,

I agree if you have floats for a short time and they become heavy Rotax should replace them. Call it a warranty period like we get on many products we buy.  The new floats I get are usually 6.3 - 6.5 when I weigh them after use. Not having any issues with older floats or the newest ones.

Removed "old"  floats & replaced with new R type - hope they do the job.

Turns out the old ones are B type - will return to Rotax in the hope of a refund.
