I just bought a new grt 4000 eis for my plane. After installing it I couldn't get the oil pressure to read. Grt tech support said its because I still have the vdo sensor in it and it was programed for a honeywell or Keller sensor.  They could not give me a part number or reason why the vdo won't read anything.

My question is.

Shouldn't my vdo still read something,  even if not the correct pressure?

Or is the newer sensor completely different.

Is it still a one wire sensor?

Thanks

Steven, as far as I recall the “old” VDO sensor provides resistance whilst Honeywell and Keller sensors deliver a voltage to the gauge/instrument. Since your instrument expects a voltage reading, the VDO does just not work in that combination.

When replacing the VDO sensor with a Keller- or Honeywell-sensor make sure you get the right thread. Triple-check the thread of the engine case. That was changed at some point from “something” (don’t remember) to M10!

I’m also using the EIS 4000 monitor and it works fine with the VDO pressure sensors. Maybe have them change the software. The Honeywell sensors are much more expensive so you may save money in the long run.

You are correct.  they have two different programs. unfortunately they don t mention that on the order form.  I could send it back but they are  way behind and I already have all my old gauges and wiring redone so the plane would be down for an unknown amount of time. I am disappointed as to how hard it is to find up to date manuals for these units.

However, I have been reading through all of their manuals and found a universal manual that says I can use the aux wire for the vdo.

That may be my easy out for this.
