Goog morning,

Yesterday I had to remove the oil reservior to empty the oil during the first oil change. The oil drain plug was situated directly over the muffler and almost impossible to get to, so I beleive this was the best way to insure that all the oil could be drained out.

My question: After removing the reservior, I poured the oil out through the filler cap, instead of removing the drain plug. This seemed to be a quicker solution.
Does this method cause any problems within the reservior, such as the screen or other internal parts?

The magnetic plug was clean except for a few minute burrs.

Thanks,
Rich

    Hi Rich,
Unfortunately that’s a short-cut (and those are not a good thing in aviation).
The tanks should be drained through the bottom port because that’s were the contamination is. Pouring it out of the filler cap will not drain out this contamination.
Maybe you could loosen the clamps and raise the tank to remove the plug without having to remove it completely?

    Rob,

Thanks for your input. It's very much appreciated as I'm new to the 912 series. I've been flying a two stroke 503 for the past three years. The tank must come out to drain but I'll remove the drain plug on the next change. I had already bought the crush washers for that purpose.
